We are pleased to introduce the
McCall Service Specialists

We are an especially experienced and cohesive team of industry-certified professionals who have withstood the test of time in a demanding and competitive service industry. In fact, combined we now average more than 19 years service with McCall.

The result of this uncommon experience and continuity is a growing accumulation of knowledge about our resources and our craft and it assures informed and consistent service capability. On-going professional education with an emphasis upon professional certification additionally assures our commitment to protection of the legal and financial interest of each client and candidate.

The following biographical information describes the wealth of experience available to meet a broad range of staffing needs. Cross training between temporary and direct placement enables us to complement and share our service strengths with one another for the benefit of the people and companies we serve.

  • Laura has been with McCall for 29 years. Laura's primary responsibility is to ensure client and employee satisfaction with McCall temporary services. Whether partnering with clients to strategize their use of contingency employees, structuring temp-to-direct-hire transactions, or resolving a problem for our service staff and/or clients and temporary employees, Laura is the "McCall Answer Person." Clients and staff know that if Laura doesn't already have the answer, she always knows where to find it! She is very much "at the heart of McCall" and mentor to all! Her creativity and wonderful sense of humor (especially puns!) enrich us all.

    Shortly after entering the staffing industry, Laura established the first Bay Area staffing firm to specialize in word-processing placement. She later managed branches in San Francisco and Marin for both national and local staffing firms. Building upon her management experience in both direct placement and temporary service arenas, Laura has been instrumental to our temp-to-hire staffing success. Her talent for innovation and her recruitment expertise in a changing labor market have been critical to our volume staffing and vendor-on-site success.

    Laura has a degree in Business with an emphasis in Personnel Psychology from St. Thomas Aquinas College. In addition to state and national industry certifications, Laura has also completed the AIRS Technical Recruitment certification program in order to add depth to our technical staffing capability. She authored a "Success Guide for Temporary Employees" published by The San Francisco Chronicle and developed the first events held by the California Association of Temporary Services to acknowledge and draw attention to the unique contribution of assignment employees to the Bay Area economy.

    In addition to leadership in the California Association of Temporary Services (CATS) organization and the San Francisco Chapter of the Women's Business Network, Laura's interest in preparing the workforce of tomorrow led to her active participation on the Mayor's Council "Preparing Youth for Industry and the Youth Employment Program for CATS. She has also volunteered as a career counselor with Options for Women Over 40 and is a resource for neighborhood seniors.

  • Kathy has over 24 years of staffing experience. As McCall's Senior Account Executive, Kathy is often the first contact for new McCall clients.

    Following 11 years in branch management with larger regional and national staffing firms, Kathy came to McCall with the conviction that local ownership is better able to tailor the correct service response to each individual customer while maintaining consistent quality to meet the unique needs of the diverse clientele she seeks to serve.

    Before entering the staffing industry, Kathy spent more than 10 years experience as Director with several non-profits. That experience fostered close ties and often-exclusive service relationships with the more than 110 McCall non-profit clients, which include 17 Bay Area museums and art groups, 21 environmental organizations and 25 social action organizations.

    A Philosophy graduate of San Francisco State University, Kathy has always been actively involved as a member and volunteer with numerous non-profit and community organizations. These have included: Northern California Human Resources Association, San Francisco State University's Career Center, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, West Coast Live, Business Volunteer for the Arts, and San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Neighborhood Liaison.

    She has served on the Board of Directors for numerous non-profits where she has designed management-training formats for members, coordinated development efforts and created volunteer programs. Kathy has been a docent for the Chinese Cultural Center and Precita Eyes and has led historical & architectural walking tours all over San Francisco with them as well as with Chabot Community College. Currently, she volunteers at the Oakland Museum of California as an exhibit guide.

  • Mari joined McCall in 1995 following 3 years of staffing consultant responsibilities with a national vocational rehabilitation firm. Mari established and ran our Peninsula/South Bay recruiting office until our decision to consolidate our service effort in a single headquarters. When needed, she is still our Peninsula field recruiter.

    As Senior Staffing Manager, Mari is usually the first service contact for clients with temporary and temp-to-hire requests. In fact, her employee selections are such good matches that a very large percentage of her temporary assignments result in unanticipated direct-hire placements and she is often the person with just the right candidate for direct- hire openings as well.

    Mari's consistently positive and supportive service earns regular compliments from clients and Assignment Employees alike. In fact, the writer of a national staffing magazine article which was otherwise critical of Bay Area staffing firms that they had secretly "shopped", singled out Mari for special mention as having "offered exceptionally perceptive and personalized, effective service."

    A cum laude graduate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from San Francisco State University, Mari also worked as a purchasing manager for an international import/export firm.

  • Sara Wells, Staffing Manager, joined McCall in 2007 bringing extensive interviewing, counseling and mediation experience to her staffing career. Working closely with Laura, Mari,and Pegi, Sara's role is to interview and offer realistic employment counseling to job candidates and to match those candidates with the assignment and direct-hire needs of McCall client companies.

    Before joining McCall, Sara worked as a full-time mediation and bias-awareness professional in New York and part-time in San Francisco. After years of dealing with people and institutions in conflict (including business disputes and domestic abuse issues), Sara is thriving at McCall where, rather than being surrounded by conflict and contention, she is able to apply her listening and problem-solving skills to the life-enhancing, job- matching process.

    Sara is a 2000 magna cum laude graduate of State University of NY at New Paltz, where she majored in Sociology. During her early college years, she co-founded and coordinated a successful campus mediation program. As part of ongoing graduate studies, she traveled to South Africa in 2000 to study their apartheid reconciliation process and social welfare system. Sara also has professional experience in writing, hospice work and event coordination as well as training staff in both business and non-profit sectors.

    In addition to her full-time employment with McCall, Sara continues to do some part- time mediation casework. Sara loves practicing yoga, meditation, swimming, and writing. She is an ongoing student of Somatic Experience as a healing technique.

  • Pegi Wheatley, C.E.S. & C.P.C., Founder of McCall and Owner since 1978, sold McCall to Certified Employment Group in 2009 after carefully selecting a successor whose reputation reflected similar service standards with long-term employee relationships. She remained part-time as a Director for 3 more years to facilitate the post-sale transition.

    It will always be a source of great personal and professional pride that the skilled service team --- who were instrumental in building McCall’s reputation during their more than 10 to 25 years tenure --- are still serving together at McCall 9 years post-business sale. As they continue to garner consistently superior reviews for quickly providing timely and personalized service validates her confidence in their effective communication and teamwork.

    Pegi is a graduate of Ripon College with subsequent secretarial school training. Following 7 years as a Probation Officer, she entered the staffing field in San Francisco in 1972 specializing in the placement of Executive Assistants and career entry positions. With a loyal referral network, direct-hire client placement services and candidate counseling remained a primary interest throughout her 42 year staffing career.

    An early supporter of professional education and credentials, McCall was the first San Francisco staffing firm to require certification achievement by all staff. Pegi’s additional professional leadership included speaking at staffing industry conferences, judging San Francisco Secretary of the Year, and providing guidance to secretarial-training educators as well as business mentoring for emerging industry peers. Her interest in standardizing a consistent service process at McCall and the advent of emerging technology in the mid 1980’s propelled her interest in helping multiple software innovators adapt their products to the staffing industry.

    Subsequent to leaving McCall in 2012, Pegi moved through part-time to consulting to primary full-time retirement. With their standard poodle as a demanding task-master, Pegi and her husband, Rick, divide their time between homes in Southern and West Marin. Pegi has been an administrative and leadership volunteer with her church, developing a website, process documentation and other written materials. Activities include daily pool workouts, rose gardening, dog park visits and occasional remodel space-planning projects. Avid NBA fans, Warrior games are a Wheatley scheduling priority.
